Singareni raises daily OB removal target to 12.1 lakh cubic metres

Kothagudem: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has revised its daily overburden (OB) removal target to 12.1 lakh cubic metres from 7.28 lakh cubic metres, amid rising power demand in Telangana, CMD Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti said on Saturday.

Reviewing the performance of 19 offloading companies engaged in OB removal at 15 open cast mines, Jyoti directed General Managers of all areas to ensure that the revised targets are achieved without fail.

He said Singareni was implementing measures to ensure adequate coal supplies to thermal power stations in view of the significant increase in power consumption in the state.

For April-August of the current financial year, the company had set an OB removal target of 1,205 lakh cubic metres and removed 1,221 lakh cubic metres, achieving 101 per cent of the target, he said.

However, only eight of the 19 offloading companies had achieved 100 per cent of their assigned targets by the end of August. The CMD directed officials to ensure that the remaining companies improve their performance and clear the backlog while meeting the revised targets.

He specifically pointed to delays by some companies engaged in OB removal at JVR OC, Manuguru OC, GDK OC, RG OC-3, RG OC-2, KTK OC-2 and Srirampur OCs.

Jyoti also reviewed the deployment of shovels and dumpers by each company and assessed the additional equipment required to meet the revised targets. He directed officials to expedite the tendering process for OB removal through offloading agencies for upcoming open cast mines.

Director (Operations) L V Surya Narayana, Director (Projects and Planning) K Venkateshwarlu, Director (E&M) M Tirumala Rao and senior officials participated in the meeting.
