Singireddy placed under house arrest

Wanaparthy: Former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy was detained at his farm and moved to his residence here on Monday. He was placed under house arrest while en route to lay siege to the Jurala project. Reddy intended to expose the alleged negligence of the government in failing to provide water to the Palamuru farming community, despite availability at Jurala.

Reddy condemned the arrests and demanded support for farmers whose cause he was championing. Speaking at a subsequent press conference, he stated that placing BRS leaders under house arrest would achieve nothing; the government lacks an understanding of the water availability situation. He deplored arrest of those fighting for the farmers’ cause, saying only 9 Tmcft was required from the Srisailam project for drinking water purposes; 1.5 tmcft is needed from Jurala to meet the drinking water requirements of Alampur and Gadwal.

There are 9 tmcft available at Jurala; after allocating 2 tmcft for drinking the remaining should be released to farmers. He asserted that the current drought is not a natural calamity but one caused by CM Revanth Reddy; while officials and rulers remain indifferent and farmers suffer due to his incompetence. He challenged authorities to arrest him if his statements were proven false.

He pointed out that, according to official figures, Jurala received 244 tmcft floodwater, yet only 18 tmcft was utilised, warning that the government would face a political downfall if it continued to torment farmers. He accused the administration of making empty promises and deceiving farmers; warned that resorting to illegal arrests would exact a heavy price.
