Wanaparthy: Two people were attacked by stray dogs on Sunday night in Ambedkar Nagar (first ward) within the Pebbair municipal limits. They were initially taken to the government hospital here, but due to the severity of the injuries, they were shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad.
Residents of the colony, led by councillor Karunasri, represented to municipal chairman Akki Srinivas Goud, urging him to curb the stray dog menace. Strays had recently attacked and severely injured two persons.
The residents highlighted a significant nuisance caused by pigs, facing severe difficulties as a result. They emphasised that children, women, and the elderly are particularly afraid to step out and requested an immediate resolution to the issue.
Responding, Goud stated that, in accordance with the ABC Rules 2023, a special team would soon be brought in to carry out sterilisation and rabies vaccination drives for the strays.
He assured that streetlights would be installed in necessary areas and promised that the municipality would take all measures to ensure the public does not face further inconvenience.
He said the stray dog menace in the Ambedkar Nagar area is increasing due to the dumping of waste from beef sales in public places. He advised beef sellers to strictly adhere to regulations and take appropriate precautions to avoid dumping waste in the open.
Goud warned that strict action would be taken against beef sellers who violate municipal rules by dumping waste in public, and that non-compliant shops would be shut. The shops would be sealed if necessary.
Karunasri alleged that while colonies used to be developed and better amenities provided to the public in the past, development works are currently not being carried out properly in the ward. Officials fail to respond even when contacted regarding issues in the colony.
The colony residents urged authorities to resolve sanitation problems and address the menace of stray dogs and pigs, thereby ensuring a better living environment for the community.
