Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N uttam Kumar Reddy called on AICC President Sonia Gandhi and reportedly offered to quit the post owing moral responsibility for the defeat of Congress candidate the recent Huzurnagar Assembly bypoll.
Sources said that Uttam accompanied by his wife Uttam Padmavathi Reddy, who lost the election, met the AICC Chief in New Delhi . The TPCC leader told Sonia that he wanted to quit the post and urged to appoint his successor.
Amid the talk of change of guard, senior Congress leaders A Revanth Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, former minister and MLA D Sridhar Babu, T Jagga Reddy and former Minister K Jana Reddy are in the race for the TPCC Chief post. However, Revanth Reddy was facing opposition from some of the leaders of the party.
Former MP V Hanumanth Rao is opposing the candidature of Revanth Reddy. He is urging the party high command to appoint any other leader to the post except Revanth Reddy by citing that the MP from Malkajgiri had joined the party just before the Assembly elections.
The party high command is likely to take a decision on the issue after November 16. The party high command is already observing all the political developments in Telangana and is firm to appoint new PCC president before the issuance of the election notification for the urban local bodies.
