Suryapet: Leaders from the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS came together on a common platform in Suryapet on Tuesday, demonstrating that public welfare can rise above political differences.

BRS leader and Suryapet MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy shared the dais with Congress leader and Suryapet Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Koppula Vena Reddy during the distribution of financial assistance under the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes at the District Collectorate in Suryapet.

Ordinarily, ruling and opposition leaders avoid sharing the same stage, particularly during welfare distribution programmes, as the ruling party often seeks to take exclusive credit for beneficiary-oriented schemes. Although political leaders frequently proclaim, “No politics after elections, only development,” such statements rarely translate into practice.

The event drew appreciation from common citizens and politically neutral observers alike.

District Collector Tejas Nandalal Pawar, Jagadish, and Chairman Vena Reddy jointly distributed cheques worth nearly Rs 1.50 crore to around 150 beneficiaries from both urban and rural areas of the Suryapet Assembly constituency.

Many attendees described the rare display of bipartisan cooperation as a welcome example of healthy democratic politics.
