Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday declared the Parliamentary approval of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, granting statutory status to Amaravati, as a historic and irreversible milestone, asserting that the capital issue is now “settled permanently.” Responding on X and later addressing farmers at Uddandarayunipalem, Naidu said the legislation fulfils the long-standing aspirations of the people and restores Andhra Pradesh’s identity after bifurcation.

“This is a day that will be written in golden letters. Amaravati is now a legally secured people’s capital, there is no room for debate anymore,” he said.

The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consistent support, from laying the foundation stone in 2015 to backing the present legislation, and thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and all parties that supported the bill.

Naidu dedicated the victory to nearly 29,000 farmers who pooled about 33,000 acres, calling their sacrifice “eternal.” He recalled the 1,631-day-long agitation by farmers and women, describing it as one of the most significant democratic movements in the state’s history.

“We secured this capital by overcoming conspiracies. This is not just a project, it is the self-respect of Andhra people,” he said.

Launching a fierce political attack, Naidu accused the YSR Congress Party of attempting to “destroy Amaravati” through the three capitals proposal. He said the state was pushed into a “dark phase” after 2019, alleging deliberate dismantling of the capital vision and harassment of protesting farmers. “They called Amaravati a graveyard, divided it into ‘three pieces’, and staged walkouts even during historic moments. The people have now rejected them completely,” he said, adding that the party “stands isolated while the nation backed Amaravati.”

Marking the occasion, Naidu visited Uddandarayunipalem, the site where the foundation stone was laid, along with his wife Bhuvaneswari. He was joined by ministers Nadendla Manohar, P Narayana and Atchannaidu, BJP state president PVN Madhav, MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar and other leaders.

He participated in celebrations with farmers, performed special prayers, and paid tribute to their struggle. Hundreds of farmers and women accorded a warm welcome. The Chief Minister inspected the foundation plaque, performed special prayers at the site where sacred soil and water were preserved, and participated in Deepa Harathi rituals alongside farmers.

Recalling past struggles, Naidu said the movement saw widespread public support, including solidarity from leaders like Pawan Kalyan.

Calling it the end of a “dark phase,” he asserted that Amaravati, “unstoppable, eternal, and invincible,” will now emerge as a world-class capital.
