Concern over political interference in Judiciary

Rajamahendravaram: Congress leader Chinta Mohan alleged increased political interference in the functioning of courts under the NDA government, raising concerns over judicial independence. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said he would urge the party leadership to include the continuation of Scheduled Caste status for Dalit Christians in the Congress election manifesto. He expressed confidence that Dalits would play a decisive role not only in State politics but also in national politics by 2029. Chinta Mohan criticised what he described as growing political influence in judicial appointments and verdicts, and said such interference should be strongly opposed.
He termed the denial of reservation benefits to SC Christians as unjust and questioned whether members of marginalised communities would attain social upliftment merely based on religious identity. He also remarked that the location of a capital is ultimately determined by political decisions rather than parliamentary legislation. Referring to Amaravati, he alleged that it has turnedinto a hub for real estate activity.
