Applications invited for certificate course in Library Science

Vijayawada: Director of Public Libraries A Krishna Mohan has invited applications from eligible candidates for admission to a five-month Certificate Course in Library Science. The training programme will be conducted from June 1 to October 31, he said.

In a statement here on Thursday, Krishna Mohan announced that a total of 240 seats are available, with 120 seats allocated for each medium: English and Telugu.

The course will be offered at three institutions: the Paturi Nagabhushanam School of Library Science in Vijayawada, the Rayalaseema Institute of Library and Information Science in Kadapa, and the Vavilala Samata Library Science Study Centre in Guntur. Each centre will accommodate 80 candidates, with 40 seats available in both Telugu and English mediums.

Candidates who have passed their Intermediate or an equivalent examination from a UGC-recognised university are eligible to apply for this course. However, those who completed their Intermediate through vocational courses are not eligible for admission.

Selection for the course will be based on merit, considering the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. An additional weightage of five marks will be provided to degree holders and ten marks to postgraduate candidates.

Furthermore, seat allocation will adhere to government norms, which include reservations for women. Additionally, ten seats in each medium are reserved for candidates already working in library institutions.

Interested candidates can obtain application forms by submitting a postal order of Rs 2 in favour of the Principal of the concerned institution. For applications submitted by post, candidates must include a self-addressed envelope with Rs 5 postal stamp.

The sale of application forms has already begun. The last date to obtain application forms is April 21, and the deadline for submitting completed applications is April 29.
