Central team praises Andhra cyclone response
A central government team has praised the Andhra Pradesh government’s disaster response to twin cyclones Arnab and Murasu, commending its timely action and support for affected residents.
The cyclones struck within the same week and affected 20 districts, with winds reaching 120km/h. The state government said its preparations helped limit deaths and property damage.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) and the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) monitored the storms around the clock through a control room, using forecasts to guide the response. The government also used AI and satellite data to send warnings to residents’ mobile phones. The Mana Mitra WhatsApp service provided immediate assistance.
The account credited Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership and planning for helping avert a larger disaster, and said the response had set a national benchmark for disaster management.
