Gannavaram: Two young athletes from Chinna Avutapalli village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district, Gogulamudi Leon and Nia Nasik, have been selected to participate in the National Modern Pentathlon Championship to be held in Nashik, Maharashtra, from October 4 to 6.

Krishna Mohan, president of the District Modern Pentathlon Association, said the duo had brought recognition to the village by earning a place in the national-level competition. He congratulated Leon and Nia on behalf of the villagers and expressed hope that they would return with medals for the State and bring further laurels to their village.

He said the two athletes had displayed excellent performance in the Under-9 category at the State-level competitions held at the Alluri Sitarama Raju Sports Ground in Eluru district from July 10 to 12. They won silver medals and were subsequently selected for the Laser event of the national Modern Pentathlon championship.
