Vijayawada: The flood may continue for the next couple of days in the Krishna basin. All the reservoirs on Krishna River are receiving inflows steadily from the upstream areas due to rains in Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The low lying areas in Krishna river course area, especially in Vijayawada city, witnessed the submergence threat on Wednesday night when water was released from Prakasam Barrage.

The people of low lying areas in the downstream of Prakasam Barrage under the purview of Vijayawada city have vacated their houses following the flood warning given by officials.

Meanwhile, the Water Resources department successfully completed the repairs to Krishna river bund near Avanigadda where there was a breach problem.

According to officials, nearly 2.5 lakh cusecs of water is being released into the sea from Prakasam Barrage by lifting 70 gates on Thursday also.

The Krishna district officials have made necessary arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents.

The upstream projects like Pulichintala, Nagarjunasagar, Srisailam, Jurala, Narayanapur and Almatti are still receiving nearly 2.5 lakh cusecs of inflows on an average.

The reservoirs in AP and Telangana Srisailam and Nagarnjunasagar received nearly 3 lakh cusecs of water from the upstream reservoirs on Thursday also.
