Follow traffic rules, auto drivers told
Vijayawada: Traffic DCP Sheik Shereen Begum has directed auto-rickshaw drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and give top priority to passenger safety as part of efforts to prevent road accidents in Vijayawada.
A special drive was conducted across all traffic police station limits in the city under the supervision of the Traffic DCP.
During the drive, traffic police officials instructed auto drivers to remove covers fitted to the rear of their vehicles if they obstruct visibility. They emphasised the need to ensure clear visibility of vehicles approaching from behind and to remain aware of surrounding road conditions while driving.
Officials pointed out that completely covering the rear portion of an auto-rickshaw could prevent passengers from clearly observing the traffic situation outside and affect visibility. Drivers were advised to take appropriate precautions to ensure safe travel. As part of the initiative, traffic police personnel conducted awareness programmes for auto drivers at several major junctions across the city. They urged drivers to avoid negligent driving, comply with traffic regulations and exercise caution while transporting passengers. The police stressed that auto drivers have a significant responsibility in preventing road accidents. They said drivers must consider not only the safety of passengers travelling in their vehicles but also that of other motorists and pedestrians.
The special drive aims to improve road safety, promote traffic discipline among auto drivers and reduce the risk of accidents in Vijayawada. Traffic police appealed to all auto drivers and road users to cooperate with the department’s road safety initiatives and strictly adhere to traffic rules to ensure safer roads foreveryone.
