Visakhapatnam: Chief General Manager of Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant (SSTPP) of NTPC V Sudarshan Babu inaugurated Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) to impart a specially designed training programme to class 5th passed out students, at NTPC Township Deepanjalinagar on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion Sudharshan Babu emphasised on the importance of the programme and congratulated all the parents in encouraging their wards to take part in this residential workshop. AGM (HR) V Shiva Prasad, Suresh P Babu, ED, A Rjender GM, senior officials, trade union and SC and ST representatives were present at the programme.

The GEM, an unique initiative of NTPC taken up as a part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility) activity. The programme is a four week residential workshop for 120 students who were 5th class passed out girl students of the government schools in the vicinity of the SSTPP.

The 120 girls will undergo a variety of extra-curricular activities including arts, sports, dance, music computer education and also classes in civil defense all aimed at the holistic development of the personality.
