Incessant rain disrupts life in East Godavari

Some of the fishermen returned to their homes. Since Sunday night there was continuous rain. The sea became turbulent and the tumultuous waves rose very high causing panic and fear among the people.
In Konapapapet and U Kothapalli mandal, fishermen are moving their boats to safer places as the boats have been affected by the rough weather in the sea.
The heavy rains further caused waterlogging, resulting in inundation of many houses in areas like Kakinada Rural, Ramakrishna Rao Pet, Kalpana Centre, Madhura Nagar, Yetimoga and other areas in the Smart city. The supply of electricity was disrupted, and traffic jams were witnessed on Monday.
The sea at Kakinada shore is very rough and the waves touch the Kakinada-Uppada road. Sea waves created havoc and the road abetting the sea area was damaged.
People in low-lying areas faced a lot of hardship owing to the failure of power supply Chinturu Agency and Rampa Agency. The low-lying areas in Kakinada were inundated with rainwater. The Collectorate was also submerged with rainwater. Many trees fell causing traffic hazards and the officials removed the trees clearing the way for the traffic.
Many low-lying areas in the district were inundated with four feet of water making it inconvenient for people to reach their destinations while vehicles were stranded. Heavy rain lashed Rampa Agency, Chinturu agency and other parts of the district.
Speaking to The Hans India, Kakinada RDO AG Chinni Krishna said that all Mandal Revenue Officers and other department officials have been alerted. Kakinada municipal commissioner Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar inspected the low-lying areas in Kakinada.
He said that all necessary relief measures had been taken to ensure that the city dwellers were not disturbed due to rains. He said that sanitary workers have been deployed in the areas where water is blocked, and they were monitoring the areas.
He said there was still a possibility of water stagnation in areas like Recharla Peta and Sambamurthy Nagar in the city and special monitoring would be carried out on those areas.
District Collector Chevuri Hari Kiran said that keeping in view of the havoc likely to be caused by the Gulab cyclone, they made adequate arrangements. He directed the officials to provide drinking water and other facilities to the people of the low-lying areas.
The district registered 76.2 mm rainfall on average. Kadiyam mandal registered the highest rainfall with 137.2 mm whereas Nellipaka mandal had the lowest rainfall of 14 mm.
