Ongole: Prakasam district collector Dr Pola Bhaskara said that creating awareness on AIDS was required to control the disease.

The collector along with the Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy flagged off the World AIDS Day rally at the collectorate on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that the government has strived enormously in controlling the AIDS and coronavirus in the district. He said that they have boosted courage by the steps taken by the district administration as part of the Covid operation.

He said that there was a chance of coronavirus second wave and advised the public to follow the instructions by the government. He said that AIDS can be controlled with an awareness of the disease and preventive methods successfully. He announced that they are conducting a 50 days publicity programme to create awareness of the disease. Magunta Srinivasulu called everyone to work for the control of the disease and establish an AIDS-free society. He said that once there were more AIDS cases in the district, but by creating awareness they have successfully brought down the number. He said that the Chief Minister was focused on public health and included about 2,000 diseases in the Dr YSR Aarogyasri programme.

The rally was conducted from the collectorate to the GGH Ongole.

JC JV Murali, Madiga corporation chairman K Kanakarao, DMHO Dr Ratnavali, municipal commissioner Bhagyalakshmi, ICDS PD Lakshmi Devi, GGH superintendent Dr D Sriramulu, RIMS principal Dr Rajamannar, ADMHO Dr Padmavathi, IRC staff, nursing students and others also participated in the World AIDS Day rally and signature campaign programme.
