Peace brings constructive development: Dr T Srikumar

Vijayawada: On the occasion of Hiroshima Day, Department of Physics of Andhra Loyola College organised a lecture on 'Peaceful uses of Nuclear Energy for Human Development ' here on Tuesday.
Rev Fr Victor Emmanuel, college principal attended as the chief guest of the occasion and shared his experiences on his visit to War Memorial at Hiroshima, twenty years ago. He said that war bring destruction and misery whereas peace brings constructive development.
Resource person Dr T Srikumar said that nuclear energy can be used for peaceful purposes in industry, health, agriculture, food, safety and space research. Helium III isotope can be used for converting sea water into drinking water. Selected radio isotopes used for treatment of cancer and gene therapy, he said, and added that the field of radiation studies and nuclear medicine has a lot of scope for employment.
Head of the department Dr G Sahaya Baskaran stressed the need for science and technology in human development index. Dr M C Rao, faculty of physics Arun Kumar, Mounica and Gayatri, students of physics were present. Later, resource person Dr T Srikumar was honoured.
