Power consumption increased in the State amid El Nino, will overcome, says Gottipati Ravi Kumar

Andhra Pradesh Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said that the demand for electricity has skyrocketed because of the El Niño phenomenon. In a media interaction on Tuesday, he disclosed that while the daily consumption of electricity was 240 million units in the same period last year, it has now gone up to 290 million units. The minister said that there has been more than 20 percent increase in electricity consumption this year because of extreme heat.

According to him, despite the fact that GENCO produces electricity in record numbers, the consumption has become inevitable. He assured that the government purchases power from outside sources so that there won’t be any disruptions.

He further mentioned that it is the objective of the alliance government to make sure that there is no power cut in both rural and urban regions. The minister said that Chief Minister Chandrababu inspects the functioning of the electricity department once a week and provides the necessary guidance.
