Visakhapatnam: As the festival of colours is around the corner, revellers are getting ready to paint themselves with colours. As the awareness on incorporating organic colours is on the rise, many plan to arm themselves with natural colours this year to celebrate Holi.

Since there is a shift in people's mindset to give up chemical-filled artificial powder, traders in the city offer safe choices to cater to the needs of revellers. Thanks to a host of environmentalists and social workers, the awareness on safe options have increased among people over the years.

Among other areas, Poorna market is the ideal place for many to splurge in natural colours. Animal lovers in the city stated that use of natural colours will be harmless to pets. They added that harsh chemicals used in artificial colours cause skin allergies not only for human beings but also for animals.

Skin consultants and dermatologists suggest people to exercise caution as their eyes, skin and hair would be affected if they use chemical-loaded powder during festivities.

A dermatologist from Madhurawada, T Sri Harsha suggested, "Washing face and body with mild soap and hair with a shampoo and conditioner is a must after the revelry. Massaging skin with olive oil or moisturiser will protect skin from developing further rashes and allergies."
