In an effort to create awareness about implementation of FASTag, AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation organised an interactive session here on Thursday at Siripuram.
Underlining the need for FASTag, a prepaid device, P Shiv Kumar, project director, NHAI-PIU, Visakhapatnam, said it was a devise that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology linked with the registration details of the vehicle was affixed on the windscreen from inside and enable a customer to make all payments directly from the FASTag, while the vehicle is in motion.
Explaining salient features of the FASTag, Prashant Kumar Mishra, Deputy Manager (Technical), NHAI-PIU said anyone driving though any toll plaza, there will be dedicated lanes that have FASTag readers installed.
While FASTags would enable all vehicles pay toll fee digitally, while providing convenience of faster movement across toll plazas and in turn would help in significantly eliminate long queues and congestion at toll plazas with consequent saving in fuel and time, said Sudhir Mulagada, Chairman, AP Chambers, Visakhapatnam Zone.
