Vidya Malavade exposes electricity scam call with a witty response

Actress Vidya Malavade, who rose to fame with Chak De! India, has yet again come out in the social media limelight with a video in which she reacts to a call from someone claiming on disconnecting her electricity connection on the grounds that she has not paid her dues. The recent reel not only displays her witty reply to the fraudulent caller but also sends out a pertinent reminder about being careful about such threats.

The video shows the actress initially reacting in shock and anger to the caller informing her that her electricity was scheduled to be disconnected. However, as he proceeded to explain that the problem arose because she did not pay her bill and requested her to download an application to rectify the situation, her expressions quickly turned to anger and amusement. Replying with a witty remark, Vidya said that she would rather deal with a candle than empty her bank account, and, in doing so, she immediately ended the call.

The actress’s reaction not only entertains but also reminds people of the ever-growing problem of digital fraud and impersonation. Scammers often threaten people with cutting off their electricity connections and demand them to share sensitive information like OTPs or download dubious links. They may also ask people to verify the reading of their electricity meter through video calls.

Fraudulent activity may occur if someone pretends to be an electricity company employee over the phone and tricks you into providing personal or financial information. Always contact the customer-care executive of your electricity company in case of any difficulties with your bill or payment. It is best to avoid downloading apps or clicking on links that promise to resolve the issue.
