Late actress Smita Patil made a mark in the Indian film industry for her powerful role in films and the strong roles she played as a woman. In a recent interview, the great actor opened up about the overrepresentation of women characters as weak in the industry and how this has impacted their power.

Speaking on the movie Subah Patil says that it was about an educated middle-class woman who is challenged by her family and society to strive towards her dreams.

“The same depiction of women has been happening for a long time which by showing her as weak makes her weaker,” said Patil, sharing her thoughts from the movie.

Speaking on the movie, Patil continued, “The main character wanted to be the superintendence of the government remand home. However, her father and husband objected to her. Despite these challenges, she abandoned her lawyer husband and daughter to fulfill her dream, but faced new challenges at the workplace. The character has to fight her family and society to achieve her goals in life.”

Patil’s son, actor Prateik Smita Patil, paid his tributes on his mother’s birth anniversary on social media. The young actor called her his guardian angel and shared a touching message about losing her too early.
