Centre sanctions Rs 35-crore ropeway project for historic Khilla Ramalayam
Nizamabad: A ropeway project estimated at Rs 35 crore has been sanctioned for the historic Khilla Ramalayam temple in Nizamabad, Urban MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana announced on Sunday.
Addressing reporters at the BJP district office, he said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be prepared soon to develop the temple into a major tourist destination under the Centre’s Parvatmala scheme.
Highlighting the historical significance of the fort, Dhanpal recalled its association with Samartha Ramadasu, spiritual guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji, and poet Dasarathi Krishnamacharyulu, who penned the famous lines “Telangana Na Koti Ratanala Veena” during his imprisonment at the fort.
He said he and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind had pursued the project with Union Ministers.
He also welcomed the recent visit of Roads and Buildings Department officials and ropeway company representatives to the site.
Meanwhile, the MLA accused the Congress government of neglecting Nizamabad Urban and withholding development funds. He said repeated appeals for special funds had yielded no results.
Dhanpal also sought double-bedroom houses for eligible beneficiaries and proposed residential towers for landless families on the Hyderabad model.
BJP district general secretary Nagolla Lakshminarayana, corporators and other party leaders attended the meeting.
