After the encounter of four criminals who were accused in Disha’s rape and murder case, women from all walks of life pour out their comments and salute the Telangana Police for taking such a brave step

Friday morning the whole nation woke up to the encounter news of four accused, in the gruesome case of rape and murder of a young Hyderabad-based veterinarian Disha.

The Telangana police in a statement said that the accused attacked them and shot at cops and in retaliation the cops shot back killing all four in the gun fire. Although encounters are not encouraged…there was a sense of joy across the nation.

As the adage goes justice delayed is justice denied and in Nirbhaya case the rapists are still alive after the death sentence; this unfortunate encounter of the criminals was accepted as justice served in time.

Womenia spoke to a wide section of women from all walks of life and gauged their views on this issue.

Even though we have judiciary system and a court of law, encounter is not the way, but in this case, as it was so brutal, I think there is any guilt in me or majority of the Indians because people are celebrating the encounter as in some level the justice is being served.

And if someone thinks they can get away from crime like this then they deserve the punishment. I am not saying that encounter is the way, but I feel that this will instil fear among people who are capable of doing heinous crimes."

- Rakul Preet Singh, Actress

I think justice has been served. Telangana has set up an example of how they should fulfil their responsibility. Otherwise, this has been an essential thing in our mind, especially women who are going out late in the night lost their independence.

So, this is a message for the people who have such kind of criminal mindset. Other such cases also should be taken into consideration, and the government should act likewise."

- Koeli Mukherjee Ghosh, Artist

I am happy, and I may sound very inhuman, but the point is people who do not respect the female in their lives and their abuse should be punished. What they did was a heinous thing that they did by burning her.

Look at the way they plan it, and it's not that a spur of the moment that has happened. I would say these types of cases or all the rapist of the country should be punished.

I would say hang them publicly so that it will be a lesson to the man who lookup with such a drishti. Now they will be scared to do such things. We need to have a fear instant in every man who is having such thought."

- Kaushalya Reddy, Kuchipudi dancer

If such incidents take place, people will be afraid to do such kind of a crime if someone thinks to molest a woman they would start thinking twice to commit such crime. I feel that this justice was delayed but still if the encounter was late, it was given in the latest way.

I also appreciate the government. Even in the case of the person who raped a nine-month-old, this should have been done, and I was shocked that a person could commit such a brutal crime with an infant. Doing such kind of encounters people will have a fear."

- Sister Anjali a gospel speaker who is a transgender person

It was just a moment of pain that was given to these criminals, what is kind of pain have these people encountered. They did not realise what they had done; I feel that the punishment should have been even harsher. They should have encountered them in public.

I feel it is good in a way, but then I do not feel that it is the right kind of punishment. Maybe it's because of the law, and I also feel that there should be a law where these criminals are publicly punished."

- Naga Jyothi, Entrepreneur

I am relieved that the accused rapists are not alive anymore. It makes me less scared and more confident in our police and justice.

The government took the right step in giving justice to Priyanka's family and also women across the State. With such kind of punishments, there will be awareness, and the crime rate will be reduced.

At the same time, I still feel that the criminals should be tortured more as they did to the victim."

- Dr Vijaya Rupa K

As women, we always face injustice in the name of rape or harassment. The encounter that took place with the criminals is a good step taken by the government, but still, we cannot assure that such crimes would stop with this encounter.

The society should change their mindset so that they would be an end to such crimes."

- Haritha Teressa, B Tech graduate

I feel that the government has taken a brave step against the accused and I hope such kind of acts by the police would bring fear among the people who have such cruel minds.

Apart from the government's act, every parent also must educate their children with values and ethics and monitor them, until they are matured."
