Trains From KSR To KIAL Bengaluru Start Chugging

Suburban train services from the heart of Bangalore city to the Kempegowda International Airport started chugging from 4 of January (yesterday). The first train left the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway station in Bengaluru at 4.45 am.

This is similar to the Delhi model where there is a metro within the airport. Commuters in Bengaluru who are tired of the long-distance travel have heaved a sigh of relief after the introduction of train service between KIAL and parts of Bengaluru. If the flying time between Hyderabad and Bengaluru was 50 minutes, the drive from the airport in Devanahalli to any part of the city takes a minimum of an hour and should there be traffic at the Hebbal flyover, it takes longer. The idea is good and Benglureans had been wanting to have a metro line connected between airport to different parts of the city. Now, they are happy that at least the suburban transport will save them not only traffic hassle but also cut down on time and money as the fare is said to be about 15 rs.

About ten trains will operate from different parts of the city. Three from DevanaHalli, two from Kranthi Veera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway platform, two from Bangarpet, and one each from Yelahanka, Yeshwanthpur, and Cantonment will ply in these routes.

About ten trains will ply in the beginning, and depending on the demand and response from the passengers, the number of trains will be increased. The first train starts from KSR Railway station at 4.41 am to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL). More services will be provided during peak hours.

These details were shared by the South-Western Railway Chief public relations officer E Vijaya with the media. The train timings are prepared based on which hour more planes arrive at the Airport and during which hour they fly. Arrangements are made to see that trains reach the Hall station well before planes start to fly or arrive.

Five trains in the morning and five trains in the evening will be operating. Initially, trains will stop at all stations. It will take fifty minutes to travel from Kranthi Veera Sangolli Rayanna railway station to the Hall station. Non-stop services will be provided once the number of travellers increases in which case commuting time will decrease. Vijaya also said since the ticket rates are low, it will help thousands of commuters. To start with, three pairs of demo trains will start operation. This service will be available only six days a week except on Sunday.

The train will have eight coaches which includes two motor cars. This will have the capacity to accommodate about 2402 passengers. Each coach will have 84 seats Which can accommodate 325 passengers. Motor cars alone will have 55 sets.
