Our lifestyles impact ageing process

This refers to Dr Mohan Kanda’s article, ‘Ageing – It’s all in the mind’ (THI, Nov. 4). Some well-known personalities continue to look handsome and beautiful even in their advanced years. Actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao used to say that he was young in mind but old in body. Actresses like Hema Malini and Rekha also appear ageless. If our minds remain calm and positive, we can always feel young. Silver hair and a bald head are simply part of life. Many great personalities have written books even in their old age. Leo Tolstoy reportedly said, “I cannot be silent, even though I am 82 now.” However, we cannot overlook the physical, financial and social problems that often weaken the mind and prevent elderly people from displaying their abilities. Healthy ageing largely depends on the circumstances and conditions in which we live. Hence, it is not always possible to agree that ageing is merely a state of mind or that age is no barrier to doing anything.

Trump needs to course correct!

The preference of American voters in mid term poll demonstrates unpopular and unwise decisions of President Donald Trump. Now, both houses of US have majority law makers from Democratic Party to add discomfiture to the Republican President. With his arrogance and dictatorial decision.making mindset , Trump contributed to the wars in large scale in various parts of the world during his second term in White House. His deeds have resulted in escalation of prices of gas and other essential requirements of Americans making him the most unpopular head of the state. The Republican candidates contesting for various public posts have paid heavy price for the lapses of Trump on various fronts. He needs course correction immediately to retrieve the last ground for peace and harmony on international.scene and take control of the domestic economy at once. Ego needs to be substituted with wisdom and sanity. It ensures win win situation to all stakeholders. The writing on the wall is clear and loud. Failure to take note of this for corrective action only leads to further detioration of his popularity with consequential repercussions on international. affairs and American economy in the days to come.

Stop posturing on Hindutva

Apropos the editorial (Nov 5) where in it is questioned “If it is true that Muslim festivals cause environmental damage, efforts should be made to stop or check that …” What else Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rana did when he spoke “ They (Muslims) should also speak about an environmental friendly Ramzan and Bakrid”? Pity that it had become a passion to conclude that Hindutva must rise above majoritarian posturing.

Strict compliance vital for ensuring efficiency

Through your newspaper, I would like to express my support for the administrative directives detailed in the news report titled “Private schools told to update attendance data without fail” published on November 5. The firm instructions issued by Director of School Education and State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, E. Naveen Nicolas, requiring all private management schools in Telangana to upload regular student and teacher attendance records onto the Integrated School Management System (ISMS) portal, mark a necessary step toward standardized educational governance. For too long, many private educational institutions have operated with minimal state oversight regarding daily student attendance and staff strength. When private school managements delay uploading attendance metrics or fail to report accurate figures, central and state education departments are left without reliable data to evaluate learning continuity, teacher-student ratios, and safety protocols. The School Education Department and District Educational Officers (DEOs) must enforce strict monitoring schedules and penalize non-compliant private school managements that fail to meet the monthly deadline. Furthermore, establishing automated verification audits within the ISMS platform will prevent artificial inflation of attendance figures and ensure complete data integrity. Enforcing mandatory administrative compliance across private institutions is essential to maintaining systemic equity and accountability. Strict data regulation will strengthen educational oversight across the state.
