Hyderabad: The state Cabinet has decided to launch the Indiramma Family insurance scheme on November 19, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in Siddipet.
For the unversed, the insurance scheme, also called Indiramma Kutumba Jeevitha Bima Pathakam, provides for Rs 5 lakh insurance cover to the primary earning member or head of the family in approximately 1.5 crore households across the state. The entire premium will be borne by the state government (with an allocated budget of Rs 4,000 crore). Universal coverage is intended for eligible ration card-holding and surveyed households across all economic categories.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy would launch the scheme along with the distribution of Indiramma sarees. The Cabinet also approved a proposal for the rehabilitation of the three damaged barrages- Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla as per the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority and the expert committee. To make the Global Summit a grand success, all the Ministers have been entrusted with different tasks to complete the arrangements expeditiously.
Briefing the press after the Cabinet meeting, State Information and Public Relations Minister P Srinivasa Reddy said that the Indiramam family insurance scheme would be applied to all the citizens in the state. From November 20 to 30, ‘Indiramma Committees’ in every village across the state will visit each household to collect applications from every family. These applications will be received by Tahsildars and Gram Panchayat secretaries. Every family in the state will be covered by life insurance worth Rs. 5 lakh. The Minister said that the Cabinet reviewed the current situation at the Kaleshwaram barrages and the reasons for not lifting water from the damaged structures.
