Amaravati: The YSR Congress Party has begun preparations for a legal battle alongside political contest in the forthcoming local body elections. It has directed its Legal Cell to establish district-level war rooms, constituency task forces and a State-level coordination mechanism to protect candidates at every stage of the process.
Addressing a Legal Cell meeting at the party’s Tadepalli office on Saturday, State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said legal assistance must be available from nomination filing through polling and counting.
He called for steps to prevent technical rejections of nominations and to counter alleged violations by officials and police. Sajjala questioned the government’s haste in holding elections before completion of the Special Intensive Revision and publication of final electoral rolls, arguing that newly eligible voters could be denied their constitutional right. He also demanded public release of the BC Reservation Commission’s report and its methodology.
The party was asked to identify sensitive areas, nomination centres, polling stations and strong rooms for close monitoring, with any violations to be digitally documented and raised with authorities, the media and the Election Commission.
Separately, MLC and general secretary Lella Appi Reddy urged the State Election Commission to include all eligible voters enrolled in the Election Commission of India’s rolls up to July 15, 2026. He objected to using rolls as of February 5 and sought updated local body rolls published in advance.
