Mandya: Three members of one family died on Tuesday morning at Koppa in Maddur taluk, Mandya, when a milk tanker struck the scooter on which four of them were travelling to Bengaluru after Gowri-Ganesha festivities. The dead have been identified as Muthuraj, 35, Kavya, 30, and Keerthana, 8. Another daughter was badly hurt and has been admitted to hospital.

Muthuraj lived at Kootanahalli in Kanakapura and worked at a factory in Peenya, Bengaluru. The family had gone together to the wife’s parental home for the festival. Work required him back, so they left for Bengaluru by scooter in the morning.

A milk tanker coming from behind hit the scooter at Koppa, and the three died there. The injured child was taken to hospital. The bodies have been moved to the mortuary at a hospital in Mandya.

Mandya Superintendent of Police Dr. Shobha Rani visited the spot and the mortuary and conducted an inspection. Police have taken the milk tanker and its driver into custody and are questioning the driver. CCTV images are being studied to fix the exact cause, the DP said. A case has been registered within Koppa police station limits.
