Shivamogga: The International Youth Day programme at district level is to include a marathon, as NACO guidelines require youth-festival events on HIV/AIDS. College students in Shivamogga district aged 17 to 25 will run on September 18 from 7 am.

Organisers say the contest is meant to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS, list service facilities, check stigma and discrimination, address STIs and similar subjects, explain the HIV/AIDS (Prevention) Act, 2017, publicise free national helpline 1097 and raise awareness among students, including the value of blood donation.

Police, the Deputy Commissioner, senior officers, the district chief executive officer, District Health and Family Welfare officials, health-department district programme officers and elected representatives are listed as attending.

Runners start at Nehru Stadium, pass Jail Circle and Gopi Circle, move on from Ammi Ahmed Circle by Nehru Stadium and end the course by way of Veerabhadra Talkies.
