13 die, 26 injured during Ganesh festivities

Hyderabad: Director General of Police CV Anand expressed deep grief over the tragic deaths of 13 people during the ten-day Ganesh festival. Describing the death of Kothagudem Sub Inspector Venkanna, who was deployed in Hyderabad for immersion duties, as particularly tragic, CV Anand also termed the deaths of six individuals in Patancheru within Cyberabad limits as deeply unfortunate.

He noted that one person named Shiva died in Khairatabad early Friday, while another passed away following a heart attack in Nirmal. He added that high noise levels from DJ systems contributed to some fatalities. Across the state, 26 people sustained injuries in various incidents, including 17 injured within Malkajgiri commissionerate limits.

Regarding festival scale, CV Anand stated that a record 1.24 lakh Ganesh idols were registered on the statewide portal this year, up from 1.15 lakh registrations last year. He confirmed that the immersion of approximately 88000 idols across Telangana had already been completed successfully by Friday evening.

The police chief expressed confidence that the immersion process for the remaining idols across all commissionerates would be fully completed by Saturday morning under continued security surveillance.
