Kukatpally: ABVP activists set fire to the effigy of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao near JNTU, here, on Monday to protest against his failure to react to the 'indiscriminate' increase of fees by some engineering colleges.

During the demonstration, the activists questioned the government as to why it was not taking any action against those colleges which resorted to hiking of fees even without having adequate number of faculty members and securing a court stay against the fees regulatory committee.

This was causing hardship to poor students, they added. They wanted engineering colleges to increase fees as decided by the regulatory committee and implement the Supreme Court's ruling directing collection of fees as decided by the regulatory committee. The ABVP warned the state government of intensifying the agitation if the government continued to be indifferent on the fees issue.
