Hyderabad: Khairatabad senior leader and Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) secretary Palapugu Govardhan said he was ready to go to jail, if necessary, while fighting for the rights and welfare of the poor.
Addressing an Atmeeya Sammelan attended by around 2,000 people in the city on Sunday, he said he had worked for the poor for nearly 30 years despite political hurdles.
Govardhan alleged that some individuals had deliberately prevented him from securing political positions. He vowed to continue raising public issues irrespective of opposition. He announced plans to undertake a padayatra across Khairatabad soon, visiting households and interacting with residents to understand their problems.
He said youth would play a key role in the ensuing elections and stressed their empowerment. He also called for unity among Hindu organisations and prioritised slum development and the welfare of SCs, STs, BCs and economically weaker sections.
