BJP Parliamentary Board Member and Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Operation Polo during an event organised by the Telangana State Liberation Celebrations Committee on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Laxman challenged communist groups who highlight the historical armed struggle, demanding they explain why they turned weapons against the Indian Army after Hyderabad State merged with India on September 17, 1948. He urged communist leaders to reflect on whether fighting the national army with private militias while rejecting democratic processes and Dr BR Ambedkar constitutional principles constituted patriotism or treason.

Hailing September 13, 1948, as a historic date, Laxman noted that Telangana citizens fought heroically against atrocities, sexual violence, and looting by Razakars under tyrannical Nizam rule. He credited country first Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with liberating the region by deploying the Indian Army under General Jayanth Chaudhuri and Major General Rudra to defeat Nizam forces. Highlighting military sacrifices, Laxman recalled that Naik Pritam Singh, who led the Sikh Regiment and became the first martyr of the operation, was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra. He emphasized that current political freedoms rest on the sacrifices of 46 soldiers who laid down their lives during the campaign.

Laxman noted that official celebrations of Telangana Liberation Day began under Prime Minister Narendra Modi following initiatives by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, whom he described as a modern-day Sardar Patel.

However, he criticized both BRS and Congress for aligning with the MIM party to suppress historical truths for political expediency.

Alleging that the ruling Congress yields to opposition forces that historically resisted Telangana integration, Laxman asserted that complete justice to regional history will only be delivered when the BJP assumes power in the state.
