Cong reneged on poll promises; unable to run Assembly: BRS

Hyderabad: The BRS leaders on Sunday alleged that the government lacked the commitment to implement the pre -poll promises and was conducting the Assembly sessions just for the sake of conducting as per the rule.

Addressing a press conference here at the party office Telangana Bhavan, Leader of Opposition in Council S Madhusudhana Chary said that the Congress government’s failure and hollowness were exposed during the Council sessions. It became evident that there was no genuine intent to conduct the House proceedings properly. The House was convened merely to serve the government’s own needs. There was no visible sincerity regarding the implementation of assurances. “I have myself served as a Speaker. Even in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, there was never such a massive deployment of police forces. Marshals were deployed inside the House. The Chairman did not even look towards our side. Discrimination against us continued even in the live broadcasts,” said Chary.

The BRS leader alleged that the ministers’ replies to their questions were inadequate. Decisions made in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) were disregarded. Not a single ‘short duration discussion’ was conducted properly over the six days. The government prioritized only the passing of bills. “We submitted adjournment motions every day but all were rejected and our 20 issues we proposed for discussion were ignored.

Fearing a debate, they avoided it because they had achieved nothing during their 1,000 days in power,” said the LoP, alleging the government acted in a malicious and irresponsible manner. The BRS leader demanded that the CM Revanth Reddy must apologise for the way the Council proceedings were conducted.

MLC Surabhi Vani Devi said that their party’s women MLAs were subjected to a gross insult. “If justice is denied here, we are forced to go to Delhi; isn’t that an embarrassment for Telangana? Do you really need to deploy 500 police personnel around 40 public representatives? Is this the respect shown to MLAs and MLCs? They handed over a 463-page bill but didn’t allow time to read it? Copies of the bill were provided to us only after the Chairman announced its introduction. Is it humanly possible to read 463 pages in a matter of minutes? They treated such an important bill as a mere formality. The Council proceedings turned into a farce,” she said.

MLC Desapathi Srinivas said that despite numerous restrictions, they utilized the limited time available in the Council. We turned the Legislative Council into a platform for spirited protest. Why did the CM run away instead of discussing the 1,000-day administration in the House, he questioned.
