CITU condemns move to privatise railways
Protesting against the central government’s reported efforts to privatise Indian Railways, which has been providing employment to lakhs of people, CITU workers staged a protest at Rail Nilayam here.
Secunderabad: Protesting against the central government's reported efforts to privatise Indian Railways, which has been providing employment to lakhs of people, CITU workers staged a protest at Rail Nilayam here.
CITU union president Eshwar Rao said that central government initiated measures to privatise the workshops of Railways, starting with Secunderabad Railway station. He said the process would be extended later to 70 workshops at other stations. He expressed fears that the privatisation of the Railways may result in withdrawal of subsidy that is being given by the railways to poor people.
Rao expressed his unhappiness over Centre's decision to privatise the proft-making PSU. He said the SCR alone earned a profit of Rs 10,000 crore last financial year. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of favouring corporate investors and his decision to privatise public sector companies would have severe impact on public services. He demanded that the central government call off its efforts to privatise Railways and warned that they would continue their fight to save the railways.
