Chief Minister of Telangana Revanth Reddy on Wednesday has said the government is committed to supporting the families of police personnel who have died in the line of duty. Attending Police Commemoration Day event at Goshamahal Parade Grounds, the Chief Minister and Director-General of Police CV Anand paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial.

Speaking on the occasion, Revanth said honouring those who had given their lives in service of society was everyone’s responsibility. He expressed sorrow over the loss of 155 police personnel this year.

He said effective law and order was essential for the state’s rapid development, adding that the police were adapting to meet new challenges. The government had approved the recruitment of 7,437 personnel, including 4,773 constables, and would fill all remaining vacancies in phases by 2028, he said. The state had also recruited 112 deputy superintendents of police through direct recruitment.

Revanth said ex-gratia payments for police personnel had been increased to more than Rs 1 crore, depending on rank. The government was also prioritising the welfare of their families, including through an international-standard school for police personnel’s children and medical security measures for Home Guard families.

He stressed that greater use of technology in policing should not diminish its human-centred approach.

The Chief Minister praised the state police for their work against drug trafficking, saying they had secured the top position nationally. He said the government was also taking strong action against food adulteration through the ‘TG Safe’ initiative. He described assigning traffic-regulation duties to transgender people as a bold step.

Revanth said “friendly policing” should be extended to victims, ordinary citizens and innocent people, while police should take a firm approach towards criminals, land grabbers and those involved in the drug trade.
