Hyderabad: The Congress high command is reportedly considering offering key positions to both former Minister Konda Surekha and her husband Konda Murali, amid intense speculation over the political future of the influential Konda family. Konda Surekha recently stated that the party high command indicated a position would be given to her husband. While one position is under consideration, indications suggest the leadership may simultaneously offer a post to Surekha. As part of these strategic discussions, she has reportedly been invited to visit Delhi. The central question remains whether the leadership will offer one or two positions. Party sources indicate the high command is actively deliberating giving one position each to Surekha and Murali.
Sources reveal that the party leadership may consider the Deputy Speaker post for Konda Surekha and a prominent corporation chairmanship, such as the RTC, for Konda Murali. However, Surekha is reportedly seeking a more prominent role, including the Assembly Speaker post or the TPCC president position. The final decision depends on high-level discussions between the party command and the couple. Surekha may travel to Delhi on Sunday evening or post-Ganesh festival, depending on personal sentiments. The Congress leadership remains keen to retain Surekha, especially as the AICC focuses on including an OBC column in the 2027 Census and expanding outreach to Backward Classes.
As a five-time Assembly election winner and prominent BC woman leader, Surekha maintains a significant political presence, particularly across the Warangal region. Party leaders believe her potential departure would send adverse political signals among BC communities and hand political ammunition to opposition parties like the BJP and BRS. Against this backdrop, accommodating both leaders in organisational or administrative roles has gained strategic importance. However, the exact nature of the positions and whether both individuals will be appointed will become clear only after formal talks conclude in Delhi.
