Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers laid a trap and intercepted the suspects while a sale transaction involving the elephant tusks and ivory articles was underway.
Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials on Thursday arrested three persons and seized four elephant tusks weighing about 17 kg, along with intricately carved ivory articles.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers laid a trap and intercepted the suspects while a sale transaction involving the elephant tusks and ivory articles was underway. The four ivory articles were recovered and seized under the relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
Trade in or dealing with elephant ivory and articles made from it is prohibited under the Act. Officials said the DRI has been actively combating wildlife crime across the country through intelligence-based operations targeting the illegal trafficking and trade of wildlife, wildlife trophies and articles derived from protected species.
The latest operation reflects the DRI’s continued efforts to support wildlife conservation and curb organised wildlife trafficking
