Graduate MLC poll: BRS leaders find fault with EC over form 18 submission
Hyderabad: BRS leaders on Tuesday found fault with the Election Commission of India (ECI) for fixing the deadline as November 6 for submission of form 18 to register as voter in graduates MLC election as the final list of the voters will be published on November 20.
A delegation of the BRS leaders led by party MLC L Ramana met the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudarshan Reddy on Tuesday. MLC D Sravan Kumar lashed out at the unscientific procedures being followed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the schedule for graduate MLC voter registration, as well as the complete negligence of the Congress government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Sravan criticized that setting November 6 as the deadline for registering as a voter (submission of Form-18) regarding the state graduates’ MLC elections was utterly ridiculous. He said that according to the SIR process, the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 20. He questioned how Form-18 can be submitted without the final voter list and without knowing details such as the polling station, part number, and EPIC number.
He fumed that this action would severely confuse graduate voters and that the election commission issued this notification without any ‘application of mind’.
Sravan claimed that responding positively to this anomaly, the CEO assured that the matter would be sent to Delhi and that he would make his best effort to extend the deadline by another two weeks.
Expressing grave concern, the BRS leader said that the statewide SIR inquiry process was going on casually and due to a lack of proper announcements and special campaigns, there was a risk of about 90 lakh votes getting deleted. He recalled that out of 82 lakh people across the state, only 38 lakh have attended the inquiry. Questioning the CM, he highlighted that in the very constituency represented by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, a staggering 96 per cent of those who received notices failed to attend the inquiry, which was the height of the CM’s incompetence and government negligence. He fumed that the Chief Minister has utterly failed to educate the voters of his own constituency and protect their voting rights.
Sravan alleged that Ministers and MLAs had transformed into revenue surveyors, wandering around the houses of BRS leaders holding measuring tapes, instead of caring for the minimum responsibility of protecting people’s voting rights.
