Dasara gift: Congress dangles corpn posts to party men

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress is expected to fill several vacant nominated posts, including chairpersons and directors of various corporations and other bodies, before Dasara, according to party sources. With the 2028 Assembly elections in mind, the party leadership is preparing to appoint leaders to the posts of corporation chairpersons and directors, while also issuing directives to them to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has reportedly submitted a list of aspirants to the party high command after consultations with AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan during his recent three-day visit to Delhi before she left for London for higher education. The final decision is expected to be taken by the party high command in consultation with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The proposed appointments are expected to cover chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and directors of various State corporations, cooperative societies, PACS and market committees.

Party sources said those appointed to nominated positions would be expected to work closely with the organisation and strengthen the Congress cadre at the constituency and grassroots levels in preparation for the 2028 Assembly elections.

The leadership is also considering filling vacant organisational posts, including positions such as TPCC working presidents, as part of the exercise.

The tenure of the chairpersons of corporations and other bodies will be two years. By the end of their tenure, the 2028 elections are expected to be announced, and hence, the appointment of these leaders will be key to strengthening the party.

It may be recalled that the Congress leadership has decided to give priority to long-serving party workers and grassroots leaders (80 per cent), while also ensuring representation to newly joined leaders (20 percent).

It may also be recalled that the party would maintain social balance by ensuring representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, minorities and women. The selection process would also give substantial preference to grassroots organisers and senior constituency-level leaders.

However, the Telangana State calendar lists Vijaya Dasami on October 20, 2026.
