Hyderabad: The government is likely to reshuffle IPS officers ahead of the GHMC elections. Meanwhile, 2001-batch IPS officer Akun Sabharwal has returned from a seven-year central deputation and reported to the DGP.

According to sources, a number of IPS officers posted in districts reportedly failed to perform well in terms of handling the complaints being reported to respective police stations in their units. After CV Anand took charge as DIrector General of Police (DGP), Anand kept a close vigil on irregularities being taken place at several places and found several senior police officers for violating rules.

Keeping in mind such irregularities, a comprehensive report has been prepared suggesting transferring several IPS officers by giving priority for best performers to make law and order better in the ensuing GHMC polls. Sources said that the government would take a decision in reshuffling the IPS officers soon.

Similarly, Akun Sabharwal, who created a sensation in probing the Tollywood drug case in 2019, was relieved to Central Deputation. He worked at several places on central deputation for seven years. After finishing his deputation period, Akun reported to the DGP office on Thursday. The Government would consider giving a posting to Akun Sabharwal soon.

Akun Sabharwal was worked under severe pressure in handling Tollywood drug case in which Director Puri Jagannath, Tollywood actress Charmi, actors Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh, Navdeep, Subbaraju were questioned by the Special Investigation team (SIT) led by Akun Sabharwal.

In 2018, the case was registered by the Prohibition and Excise department following a crackdown on the kingpin Calvin Mascarenhas in drug peddling and supply to Tollywood actors. However, in 2024, the court dismissed at least six cases in which Tollywood actors were questioned due to lack of evidence.
