Malkajgiri ponds get festive makeover

Hyderabad: After the Ganesh immersion, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy conducted a field review of mini-ponds, temporary ponds, baby ponds and their surroundings to assess cleanliness, safety and preparedness for upcoming festivals.

Accompanied by the Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation), the Commissioner inspected immersion points, sanitation arrangements, public amenities, street lighting and park development works. He directed officials to expedite the removal of water and immersed idols, clean the ponds and surrounding areas, and undertake necessary sanitation measures.

In view of the upcoming Bathukamma celebrations, the Commissioner instructed officials to complete all arrangements at mini-ponds, baby ponds and temporary ponds well in advance. He directed that essential public facilities, including drinking water and toilets, be provided and that ramps and steps be arranged at required locations in coordination with the departments concerned.

The Commissioner also directed officials to examine the potential for developing the surroundings of ponds as spaces for sports, social and community activities in the future. He suggested preparing proposals for infrastructure, including compound walls, while taking into account the needs and suggestions of local residents regarding park development.

During the field visit, the Commissioner inspected the street-lighting system in the Uttam Nagar area of Malkajgiri. He instructed officials to identify and immediately repair non-functional street lights and prioritise the elimination of dark spots on roads and in public areas. He also advised officials to conduct regular monitoring to ensure the proper functioning of street lights.
