No decision on Kaushik Reddy; Ethics Committee to meet again on Sept 30

Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly Ethics Committee on Wednesday deferred its decision on the issue involving BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and decided to meet again on September 30.

The Committee met in the Assembly Committee Hall to decide whether to grant Kaushik Reddy six weeks’ time to respond to the notices served on him. However, it could not arrive at a decision and decided to take up the matter again next week.

During the meeting, BRS members, including former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, appealed to Ethics Committee chairman Revuri Prakash Reddy to provide additional video footage of the Assembly proceedings for further examination. Prakash Reddy, however, reportedly told him that sufficient footage was already available and there was no need to provide additional footage. It may be recalled that Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar had referred the conduct of Kaushik Reddy to the Ethics Committee following allegations that he made objectionable gestures towards Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari during the Assembly proceedings.

The Ethics Committee subsequently served notices on Kaushik Reddy along with the relevant video footage, seeking his explanation. Kaushik Reddy sought six weeks’ time to submit his response.

The Committee had served the notices in August and had taken up the issue on Wednesday to decide whether to grant the requested time. However, with no decision being taken, the matter has now been deferred to September 30.
