Women devotees holding beautifully arranged, colorful Bathukammas gather in front of the Sunnam Cheruvu Katta Maisamma temple in Hyderabad on Saturday to mark the 25th Silver Jubilee anniversary of the grand Bathukamma and Navaratri celebrations
Hyderabad: Vibrant flowers, rhythmic folk songs, and the festive spirit of Telangana filled the air as the Sunnam Cheruvu Katta Maisamma temple marked a major milestone this year, celebrating the 25th Silver Jubilee anniversary of its grand Bathukamma celebrations alongside traditional Navaratri rituals.
For a quarter of a century, the sacred banks of Sunnam Cheruvu have transformed into a sea of colourful floral stacks as women from surrounding neighbourhoods gather to celebrate the nine-day festival of life and nature.
Temple Dharmakarta Juloori Raghu Raj Goud and his wife, Sandhya Rani, reflected on the temple's journey, stating, "Over the past 25 years, these nine days of Bathukamma and Navaratri poojas have evolved into a profound spiritual anchor for the community, uniting generations of women in devotion and cultural pride."
Sunnam Cheruvu Utsava Samithi President J Vaishnavi Durga highlighted the unique cultural essence of the celebrations. "Bathukamma is a festival of flowers unique to Telangana. Women from all nearby areas gather here at the katta to celebrate together in harmony," she said, while expressing gratitude to HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath for his immense support in facilitating a dedicated immersion gate for a peaceful celebration.
Devotees expressed deep emotional ties to the landmark temple. "We come here every single year with our families for both the Navaratri poojas and Bathukamma," shared Padma, a local devotee. "Playing Bathukamma here by the water feels like home, and celebrating the 25th year makes it extra special."
