Hyderabad: Telangana Youth Congress cadres, led by State President Jakkidi Shivacharan Reddy, staged a protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, demanding the immediate arrest and resignation of Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters laid siege to the office and burned an effigy of the CEC.
Addressing the protesters, Jakkidi Shivacharan Reddy alleged that Gyanesh Kumar was acting at the behest of the BJP and RSS and claimed that around 14 crore votes had been deleted across the country without adequate objections being raised. These allegations were made by the Youth Congress as part of its protest against what it described as irregularities by the Election Commission.
He said the Congress, under the leadership of senior leader Rahul Gandhi, was spearheading protests across the country over the issue. Following the directions of National Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, the Telangana Youth Congress was organising protests across the state demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, he said.
Reddy warned that the Youth Congress would intensify its agitation if the Centre did not respond to their demands and called for immediate action against the Chief Election Commissioner.
