Congress plans two-lakh-strong march after Dasara

TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud
Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday announced plans to organise a massive public meeting, accompanied by a march involving two lakh people, after Dasara. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, other senior Congress leaders and INDIA bloc leaders are likely to participate in the meeting.
Speaking during an informal interaction with the media in Hyderabad, he said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal had directed the Telangana party leadership to organise the event. He added that the Congress high command had decided to hold similar public meetings in two southern states.
Responding to criticism of Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Kumar Goud termed allegations that he had insulted women journalists as baseless. He also referred to Rahul Gandhi tying the shoelaces of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, questioning the criticism surrounding the incident.
Commenting on the BJP's growth, he credited former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior leader Sushma Swaraj with playing significant roles in the party's rise. He accused the BJP of exploiting religious sentiments for political gains and said there should be no place for communal politics in a democracy. He also stressed the importance of respecting language and democratic rights, including the right to protest, and expressed support for those opposing communal politics. On trade union affairs, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Congress government had conducted RTC elections after a gap of 15 years. He maintained that the party remained committed to workers' welfare regardless of electoral outcomes.
Regarding the upcoming Graduate MLC elections, he said the party was making serious efforts to prepare for the polls. A meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was scheduled for the 23rd at the MCRHRD Institute, followed by discussions involving ministers, MLAs and MLCs.
