Hyderabad: Small-timeleaders in the Congress aspiring for nominated posts in Telangana are a disappointed lot in the wake of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud’s latest U-turn, reflected by his statement that the long-pending appointments are unlikely to be made before the Dasara festival.

The aspirants have been in a jubilant mood for the past two days as Mahesh Kumar Goud indicated on October 14 that appointments to nominated posts would be announced “before Dasara”. Many of the aspirants had hoped that the announcement would make the festival doubly joyful for them.

However, in a U-turn on Saturday, the TPCC chief stated that the appointments would be made “as soon as possible”, dampening the hopes of the aspirants.

“I do not know whether I will get a nominated post, but it would be a relief if the names of those selected are announced before Dasara. It would be like a victory for us after waiting for so long,” an aspirant said.

Another Congress leader said he had been waiting for a nominated post for the past three years but had yet to see his aspiration fulfilled. “I thought I would receive a nominated post as a Dasara gift this year, but the latest statement has disappointed me,” he said.

It may be recalled that Mahesh Kumar Goud, while indicating that appointments to various corporation chairperson posts and other nominated positions would be announced before Dasara, had said the delay was intended to “ensure justice for party leaders and workers” who had worked hard for the Congress.

The TPCC chief had previously assured the aspirants that the appointments would be completed in September. However, the process was delayed amid the Congress-led protests in Delhi against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

During an informal interaction with the media at Gandhi Bhavan on October 14, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party leadership was taking time to ensure that committed leaders and workers received due recognition for their contributions. He had also suggested that the list could be announced as a ‘Dasara gift’ to party cadre.
