Calls for united workers’ struggle against labour codes and erosion of rights
Karimnagar: AITUC national general secretary Amarjeet Kaur on Sunday criticised the Narendra Modi government’s labour policies, alleging that they were weakening workers’ rights and trade unions. She was speaking at the fourth State Conference of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) at Padmanayaka Kalyana Mandapam in Karimnagar. Kaur said agriculture and unemployment were major concerns and alleged that government schools were being closed while funding to higher educational institutions had been reduced. She said a large section of workers in the unorganised sector lacked adequate minimum wages, social security and pension benefits.
She alleged that the four labour codes were aimed at diluting workers’ rights and called for united resistance. Former MLA Chada Venkat Reddy accused the Centre of weakening public sector institutions in favour of corporates. Trade union leaders from across Telangana attended the conference.
