Telangana Assembly session kicks off on a stormy note

Hyderabad: The first day of the monsoon session of the state legislative Assembly witnessed high drama outside the House with BRS legislators and cops jostling one another amid tense moments at the main gate of the Assembly when the police restricted BRS MLAs wearing black T shirts emblazoned with slogans from entering the premises.

The BRS MLAs and MLCs, as per their practice on the first day of the Assembly, paid tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at the Gun Park. The BRS public representatives were seen wearing black t-shirts emblazoned with slogans such as ‘Congress failure in implementing the assurances, 1,000 days rule fruitless’. After paying tributes, while the BRS legislators were approaching the main gate, they were stopped by the police personnel. When the BRS leaders questioned the police action, the police personnel said that the chief marshal had asked them not to allow the members with slogans on the t-shirts.

Since the police personnel were not allowing the BRS members, BRSLP Deputy Leader T Harish Rao, MLAs KP Vivekananda and others removed their t-shirts (thereafter, they were in banians) and asked the police personnel to allow them inside.

However, the police personnel did not allow the members to enter the Assembly premises but arrested the legislators.

During the scuffle, BRS senior legislators Harish Rao and G Jagadish Reddy fell. Other legislators including BRS working president KT Rama Rao, Kalvakuntla Sanjay, M Rajashekhar Reddy and others sustained injuries. KTR said that the Congress government promised fulfilling ‘420 assurances’ within 100 days by writing on a bond paper but failed to implement them even after 1,000 days. This is the reason why the BRS was taking up protest, he said. While KTR was speaking to the media, the police personnel forcefully pushed him into the vehicle and arrested other members as well. The party called its cadre to take up protests in the districts against the government which prevented BRS MLAs from entering the Assembly premises.

While all this was happening, the women MLAs of the BRS V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and P Sabita Indra Reddy were pushed along and dragged by their hairs and sarees. The women legislators were seen in tears after one police personnel caught the throat of Sabita Indra Reddy.

Sabita Indra Reddy said later that the police behaved in an abnormal way on the directions of the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
