Karimnagar: Karimnagar has received its first indoor 33/11 kV electricity substation under the TGSPDCL jurisdiction, aimed at strengthening the city’s power infrastructure and overcoming land constraints in urban areas.

TGSPDCL CMD Karnati Varun Reddy technically charged the facility at Telangana Chowk on Tuesday. Built on 484 square yards at a cost of Rs 6.92 crore, the substation has two 8 MVA transformers using ester-oil technology for enhanced fire safety and improved performance.

The facility will initially supply power through six 11 kV feeders, with provision for two additional feeders and an extra 33 kV feeder for future expansion. It receives supply from the 132 kV substations at Vavilalapalli and Padmanagar. The new substation is expected to reduce the load on the SRR, Bhagatnagar and Saptagiri substations. Equipped with SCADA, IED relays and RTU systems, it will enable remote monitoring, quicker fault detection and faster restoration of power.
